The Christ Church Gate to the precincts of the cathedral was completed in 1517. The doors were installed after Restoration in 1660. The face of the building was restored in 1932 and turrets which removed in 19th century so that the owner of the Canterbury bank could see the cathedral clock, were reinstated. The Norman Staircase, now part of the King's School, is among the finest in England. The original hall was used as a dormitory for less prosperous pilgrims.
