Sizergh Castle near Kendal is a National Trust property which features a 14th-century pele tower and 15th-century great hall.

The ornamental lake is well worth a look. The fine parish church of the Holy Trinity dates back to the 13th century, and with its five aisles is one of the widest in the country. A musical carillon of tuneful bells can be heard marking the passing hours at the Town Hall.
