Here William Wordsworth wrote some of his greatest poetry, now owned by the trustees of Dove Cottage, this Lakeland house of stone, plaster and whitewashed walls has been carefully preserved largely as it was in Wordsworth's day.

Two miles from Grasmere, the tiny village of Rydal is again associated with Wordworth, Rydal Mount was his home from 1830 to 1850.
