The world famous Tyne Bridge is the symbol of Newcastle, but it is the youngest of the three great bridges. The bridge was built in 1925-28 and was opened by King George V.

The Swing Bridge was built by Sir W.G Armstrong and opened in 1876. It swivels about its centre point on huge roller-bearings and is operated by hydraulic pressure.
