Newcastle-upon-Tyne is an exciting cosmopolitan city which extends a warm and friendly welcome to all visitors.
In addition the many attractions of Newcastle itself, the surrounding area has many attractions, from the MetroCentre to Hadrian's wall and the beautiful Northumbrian countryside.
The world famous Tyne Bridge is the symbol of Newcastle, but it is the youngest of the three great bridges. The bridge was built in 1925-28 and was opened by King George V. The swing bridge is also well known as a distinctive picture os this former great ship building area.
Whilst the Teeside area has the nearby industrialised cites of Sunderland, Middlesborough and Hartlepool, it also boasts the more beautiful areas of Northumberland around Newbiggin-by-the-sea and Bamburgh, and a tour around the National Park is well worth the effort. Head towards the west, and you come to Carlisle, then go north to Scotland, or head down south through the vistas of Cumbria and tour the superbly scenic lake district down towards Kendal.
Cumbria and the North East has many attractions; excellent restaurants and cafe's with an abundance of good food and a wide variety of interesting shops.
Additionally there is plenty of entertainment and a vibrant nightlife all to be found around the principle towns and cities.
