It has much to offer the visitor, as Samuel Johnson wrote...

The Home Counties which surround London all have their own unique identities and character whilst also offering fast rail and road links into London. Spectacular countryside Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty for walking and cycling. The Surrey Hills and the Chilterns spread across Buckinghamshire, whilst Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire are also in the Home Counties with fantastic sports, leisure and outdoor activities which are widely available in the country parks and green spaces of the Garden Cities and New Towns, and within Hertfordshire's great green corridor, the Lee Valley Park which pushes down into London and the newly built Olympic Park venue of the 2012 Games.
