Canterburyhas a rich history, dating back to Saxon times, when it was the main crossing point over the Great Stour river. It's features and sights range from maritime history to Georgian architecture.Canterbury Cathedral, for centuries the centre of the city's life, is a treasure house of architectural skills from Norman times onwards and contains a magnificent collection of stained glass of the 12th and 13th centuries.

Thomas Becket’s murderin 1170 led to the cathedral becoming a place of pilgrimage for Christians worldwide.

Just over the border from Kent, lies the seaside resort of Brighton. Other cities in the area not be missed are Rochester and Chatham, and the sea ports of Dover, Whitstable and Ramsgate. Farther along the coast is Hastings of 1066 fame - the site of the Norman conquest.

The proximity of the South East to Londonalso offers the visitor many opportunities for comprehensive tours of this corner of Britain.
